How to Connect Your Shopify Store with Your Wonder Account

The Shopify connector publishes your Wonder products and pricing to Shopify. Complete setup in this order: install the Catalog Kiosk app, set up status alerts, choose which products to sync, and create the virtual device, which starts the sync.

How the sync works

  • Product data flows one way, from Wonder to Shopify. Changes made in Shopify to synced products are overwritten at the next sync. To change prices, update them in Wonder; see How to Set and Manage Product Prices.

  • Changes to the device group or its catalog apply at the next sync: added products are created in Shopify and published to your online store, and removed products are deleted.

  • Scheduled syncs run every four hours. To sync sooner, click Sync to eCommerce Store Now on the virtual device.

  • Inventory levels sync only when Enable Inventory Levels Management is turned on in Sync Management. See How to Set Up & Sync Inventory to Shopify.

  • Products not created by the connector remain in your store alongside synced products.

Requirements

  • A Wonder subscription that includes the Shopify connector. When the connector is enabled, Connectors appears in your account menu. To add it, contact our sales team at [email protected].

  • Google Chrome, to sign in to my.catalogkiosk.com.

  • Owner access to the Shopify store, or a staff account with permission to install apps.

  • A device group for your online store, with Show prices and Retail Price set to SHOW.

Each Wonder account can connect to one Shopify store.

⚠️ Important: If Show prices or Retail Price is set to DON'T SHOW, the virtual device stops and products do not sync. To check, open the device group under Devices and go to Settings; Show prices is under Price Display.

Note: The green check mark confirms the connection only. Products do not sync until the virtual device is created (see Create the virtual device).

Set up status alerts (recommended)

Status alerts notify you by email when Shopify rejects updates from the connector.

  1. On the Connectors page, click the Shopify tile.

  2. In Status Alerts, enter each recipient's email address followed by a comma. Your account email is not added by default.

  3. Click Save Changes.

Choose which products to sync

Your catalog decides which products go to Shopify. The virtual device publishes the products in the catalog assigned to its device group.

Note: Decide which products to publish before you create the virtual device. The first sync runs automatically shortly after you create it, and the products appear on your storefront immediately. If you already know which device group to use and what its catalog includes, continue to Create the virtual device.

Before you decide, check which catalog your device group uses: open the device group under Devices and go to Settings > Catalog and Scene Collection Assignment. To see what a catalog includes, open it in Content > Catalogs; its summary shows the product count, the filters and the devices it is assigned to.

Recommended setup

Website only

The catalog already assigned to your device group

Use your existing device group.

Website only

A selection of products

Create a dedicated catalog and assign it to your device group, replacing the current one.

Website and kiosks

The same catalog as your kiosks

Use the device group your kiosks use. If you expect the website to need different settings later, create a separate device group with the same catalog.

Website and kiosks

A selection of products

Create a dedicated catalog and a device group for the website, then assign the catalog to that device group.

If the virtual device shares a device group with your kiosks, both use the same settings. A change made for your showroom then also applies to the virtual device. For example, hiding prices in the device group stops the virtual device, and products stop syncing. A separate device group keeps the settings independent, but a setting you want on both must be changed in each group. Either way, changes to a catalog apply to every device group that uses it.

To set up a dedicated catalog, a separate device group, or both:

  1. If you need a dedicated catalog, create it in Content > Catalogs > Create Catalog (see How to Create a Catalog). A catalog can be limited to:

    • Specific categories or subcategories

    • Specific products, selected individually or imported from a CSV of SKUs

    • Products from selected feed providers, manufacturers or consumer brands

    • Direct-to-consumer (DTC) products

  2. If the website needs its own device group, create it and set Show prices and Retail Price to SHOW (see How to Customize Your Devices Using Device Groups).

  3. Assign the catalog to the device group, replacing any catalog already assigned: open the device group under Devices and go to Settings > Catalog and Scene Collection Assignment (see How to Manage & Change Products Displayed in Catalog).

Create the virtual device

The virtual device sends the products in your device group's catalog to Shopify.

  1. On the Connectors page, click the Shopify tile.

  2. Click Create a Virtual Device (in the Setup Guide or the Virtual Device field).

    create virtual device

  3. Complete the form:

    • Name: defaults to Shopify Connector and can be changed.

    • Address: your store or warehouse address, selected from the suggestions. The address also sets the Timezone, which you can change.

    • Wonder Connector: confirm that it shows the correct Shopify store domain.

    • Initialize settings from Device Group: the device group for your online store. If you do not use kiosks, select your default device group.

      Create new virtual device

  4. Click Finish. The first sync starts about 15 minutes later.

Note: The first sync uses the default Sync Management settings: tags and collections created outside Wonder are not modified, and inventory is not managed. To adjust these settings before the first sync, see Next step.

Confirm the first sync

Open the virtual device under Devices. While the first sync runs, Status shows Active; when it finishes, Last Sync shows Completed. If Last Sync shows Completed with Errors or Status shows Stopped, see Troubleshooting (I need to link this).

Troubleshooting

Issue

Cause and resolution

No products appear in Shopify

The virtual device has not been created (see Create the virtual device), or the first sync has not finished. Check Last Sync on the virtual device.

Last Sync shows Completed with Errors

Some products failed to sync. In the job history, select View Details for that sync and download the log to see each failed product's brand, SKU and error. See How to View the Job History of Connectors.

The virtual device shows Stopped

The status shows the reason. Possible causes include a device group that hides prices and a Shopify store frozen for an unpaid bill.

FAQs

How long does the first sync take?

The first sync starts about 15 minutes after you create the virtual device, and how long it takes to finish depends on the size of your catalog. To check its progress, see Confirm the first sync.

Can I have different prices on my website and my kiosks?

No. Your website and your kiosks use the same prices, because prices are calculated at the account level. Device group settings control whether and how prices are displayed, not how they are calculated. To change prices, see How to Set and Manage Product Prices.

Configure how product data syncs: How to Configure Shopify Sync Management Settings.
